Meet the Governors

What is the role of Burford School governors?

Our governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in school. Each governor is a member of the governing body, which is established in law as a corporate body. Decisions are the joint responsibility of the governing body. Its key functions are to:

  • set the aims, objectives, targets and policies for the school
  • monitor and evaluate the progress school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
  • be a source of challenge and support to the head teacher (a critical friend)
  • oversee the financial performance of school.

The governing body is not responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and the implementation of the strategic framework established by the governing body – this is the responsibility of the head teacher. You can find out more about the work of school governors here: www.nga.org.uk or by speaking to a member of Burford’s governing body.
